After a whirlwind of international travel, it feels great to be settled in our apartment in Florence! Thanks to an early morning start at our school’s orientation, my roommates and I spent the rest of the day exploring the city! We had paninis and gelato as we visited the Ponte Vecchio (only a block from our apartment) and the Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore (pictured above). Although we make very obvious tourists, just about everyone we’ve met has been friendly and helpful!
Over and over today I’ve thought to myself (and voiced to my roommates), “I can’t believe we’re here! I can’t believe live here.” This is probably because I’ve never been anywhere like this before, and I’ve already gotten the chance to see some of the buildings and artwork I’ve learned about. Now that it’s time to experience Italian art and culture first hand, and I couldn’t feel more grateful for the opportunity to be here.
