The night after we got home from our first visit to Rome, I was online looking for good deals to go back. Our first trip was exhilarating and jam-packed with sightseeing(click here to see), but there was one big thing I’d left undone: Galleria Borghese. The Borghese Villa and estate are beautiful, and the gallery holds a precious collection of Italian sculptures and paintings. So, when I found cheap train tickets for this weekend, I didn’t hesitate. It was perfect timing, because Katie’s parents were able to come with us!
The gallery was great, but the highlight was definitely Bernini’s David, probably my favorite sculpture of all time. The chance to sit and sketch this piece was a dream come true.
After our visit, we headed to Pinsere, a walk-up pizza place that Mackenzie and Kaylie recommended from when they studied in Rome. It was so good, and they had such a crazy variety of toppings! I had a four cheese pizza with pear, walnuts, and honey.
Refueled from lunch, we made our way to the Pantheon, Sant’Ignazio Church, and the Trevi Fountain.
Lastly, we visited Fridigarium, one of my favorite gelato places. Overall, a perfect day in Rome! It’s crazy that a day trip to Rome for me here is like a day trip to Chicago at home. I love living near great cities with great art and great ice cream.
